Collection and Use of Information
There are areas of our site and partner sites that collect information in order to assist our visitors with technical issues or to provide requested services. We collect two kinds of information, site usage data, which is not individually identifiable and information that is individually identifiable.
Site usage data: Our web server automatically recognizes and collects the domain name of each visitor to our web site. We collect information about visitors to our site, such as the number of visitors, pages visited, and the length of visit. We also may track which web site you visited before arriving at our site. This information is used in aggregate form in order to manage our web site and improve its content and function.
- Individually identifiable information: We collect individually identifiable information about you when you choose to share information about yourself. For example, individually identifiable information is collected when you complete our inspector registration form or complete a request form for support. Individually identifiable information is used to provide you with the information and possible opportunities you have requested. In addition to the registration process, individually identifiable information is managed through our secure inspector portal.
In addition, our site uses cookies for the poll function. Cookies are small pieces of information that a web server places on a site visitor's computer hard drive to enable that person to more easily communicate and interact with the site and to provide organizations with important information on how visitors use the site. For example, a cookie is placed when a visitor answers our poll question. The next time that person visits the site using the same computer; our server recognizes the cookie/visitor. Most web browsers accept cookies by default. Visitors may change their browser settings to either reject cookies or request a notification when a cookie is about to be stored. Rejecting cookies may result in an unexpected error and inoperable session.
Information Security
Information collected on this site is for PB's sole use and will not be shared with third parties or other organizations.
PB and its development partners are committed to handling information with high standards of information security. Information transmitted online is encrypted for security purposes. In addition, we restrict access to your personally identifiable information to employees who need to know that information in order to provide products or services to you.
The security of our systems is dependent on user enforced security measures. Users may not share passwords with anyone. PB will never ask you to send your password or other sensitive information to us in an e-mail, though we may ask you to enter this type of information on our portal login page or eLearning login page, which will always be linked from our main website (www.pbdisasterservices.com). Site users are responsible for the security of their individual passwords and any actions taken while using their password.
What You Can Do to Protect Yourself
Manage Your Password. The easiest and most effective way to secure your account information is through effective password management. Although passwords are a convenient way of protecting system access, users often defeat the security measures by carelessness or improper use of passwords. It is important for all system users to choose and use their passwords carefully and to protect the confidentiality of passwords at all times.
Below are some security best practices to follow:
- Choose a secure password. Don't select a password that would be easy for someone to guess such as your birthday, anniversary date, phone number, etc.
- Protect your password. Don't write your password down. If you need to write it down, make sure you keep it stored in a locked location without any other identifying information (e.g., bank name, User ID, etc.).
- Never reveal your password to anyone, including PB personnel.
Clear the Cache of Your Browser. Browsers generally cache (e.g., locally store) images of pages they have downloaded to enhance performance. By clearing your browser cache after visiting secure sites, you ensure no one else can view any confidential information you may have transmitted. Please refer to your browser instructions for information on clearing the browser cache area.
Log Out/Exit. Remember to log out when you are finished using the PB portal system. The log out function will end your portal session and you will be required to submit your User ID and Password before entering the system again. Shutting down your browser is also a good way of preventing others from gaining unauthorized access to your account. For your protection, PB's inspector portal contains an automatic 60-minute time-out feature. Should you walk away from your computer and not log out from the portal, the session will automatically end in 60 minutes.
