Selection Process & Notification: Independent contractors generally have experience/knowledge in construction, real estate, architecture, or related trades as well as basic computer knowledge.

Inspectors are notified for disaster deployment by an automated communication system that provides rapid dialing capabilities, by e-mailed standby notifications or direct phone calls from our call center team. In most cases, PB will compensate for
approved travel costs to and from a disaster site as long as the inspector meets our 21-day deployment minimum. Independent contractors are responsible for all other expenses, including hotel, car rental, meals, etc.

PB compensates independent contractors per inspection based on the exhibited quality, timeliness and customer service. A new inspector averages 45 minutes to complete an inspection.

Inspector Orientation: To be optimally prepared for deployment, we encourage all independent contractors to complete all preparatory eLearning materials, and attend available practice webinars in advance of deployment. We offer practice webinars throughout the year and provide a demonstration on how to complete the FEMA data collection forms using a handheld, pen-based computer. When a webinar has been scheduled, PB will notify qualified Independent Contractors of the date and time. Inspectors may also review our webinar schedule and self-register for webinars under the Preparedness navigation link on our site.
