Elizabeth Claire Mortimer

2007

It has long been said that if you get into the FEMA Housing Inspection business for the money, you won’t stay long. If you get into the business because you enjoy travel, meeting and helping people, independent fast-paced outdoor work, and a willingness to learn and be flexible, then the business may be for you. It is almost like volunteer work, which happens to pay.

Very few inspectors can say that they do this for a living. The vast majority must have some other means of support for slow seasons and come out to disasters when work allows. If you are lucky enough to consider yourself a full time inspector it means that you have weathered good times and bad, and you must be doing something right. You are one of the few.

In honor of those individuals who give their heart and soul to the profession and positively impact our communities across the nation, we have created the Beth Mortimer “Extra Mile” Award. This award will be bestowed to one person each year that best embodies the attributes exhibited by the late Elizabeth Claire Mortimer throughout her career in disaster services.

"I feel honored, appreciated and loved to have been presented such a beautiful award.  My words cannot adequately express how deep my appreciation is to be so recognized for performing work that was so fulfilling for me.  My family was both thrilled and proud, as well as awed by the commitment of our professional community in service."

~Beth Mortimer

Mortimer Award

Beth fully embraced this program many years ago and has been involved in every aspect of disaster work even before the inception of FEMA. Her dedication as an inspection services contractor as well as a corporate employee for PB has set a standard of excellence that all should aspire to achieve. Her positive influence on the many thousands of applicants and fellow inspectors that she has met and/or trained will be felt throughout the industry for many years to come.

The recipient of the award is one who has demonstrated:

  • The highest level of customer service
  • A consistent emphasis on providing quality inspections
  • A willingness to assist applicants as well as other inspectors
  • A positive and caring attitude in every assignment
  • A creative and dedicated approach to getting the job done
  • Regularly exceeds expected performance requirements
  • Exhibits the highest standards of integrity and character
Beth exemplifies these attributes and has been named the inaugural recipient. We profess our heartfelt and humble thanks for her many years of service and invaluable contributions.
